Today I went for a much needed float at Emma James Physio- exhausted physically and mentally but also bloated from lack of sleep and eating too much junk over the weekend, it could be the answer to my prayers.Lying still in solitary confinement is quite possibly my idea of hell- I’ll be obsessing about emails and returning phone calls plus all the jobs I’ve put off. It won’t be relaxing. 

I was very wrong. I got into the pod and lay back in the warm silky water rich in Epsom salts. I opted for interchangeable mood lighting. I don’t like the optional sensory deprivation. I automatically clasped my hands behind my head but slowly I felt my fingers unlock and my arms drift in the water. I began to feel all limbs and muscles relax, I was weightless. As though I was in a supersoft memory foam bed made for me. And as I focused on unfolding and relaxing each different part of my body I became aware my breathing got deeper and I was slipping into the stage of sleep of “drifting off”. I’m sure there’s a scientific name, but for me it’s best described as the part of sleep where you suddenly jump because you think you’re falling. Except you don’t feel like you’re falling. Or jump. In fact you can’t really feel your body, you’re just warm and relaxed and dozy. 

And before I knew it, and before I’d began to think about what to cook for dinner and did the kids have homework, I’d been in there an hour. 

I got out and showered and just felt unbelievably chilled. I didn’t feel bloated and I had a spring in my step from the Magnesium in the Epsom Salts, drawing all the toxins out. I had a cup of tea and checked on work and it was all just …. lovely. 

I even felt energised enough to start working whilst walking briskly on the treadmill and having a quick go on the Power Plate. This NEVER happens…

I feel sharper, lighter, but relaxed. And not tired. It’s great.
